Personal protective equipment

China's new national standard "GB 39800-2020 Specifications for Equipment of Personal Protective Equipment" will be implemented on January 1, 2022.

In the petroleum, chemical, and natural gas industries, there are potential dangers in all aspects of production. At the same time, there are many and overlapping processes in the industry, which is particularly important in individual safety management. If employees do not take safety precautions, they will face unpredictable harm!

During the production safety process, production accidents occurred frequently due to failure to take personal protection. The importance of personal protection has also been paid attention to again. So how can employees "save their lives"? Let’s learn together below!

Use and maintenance of personal protective equipment

01 safety helmet

1. Keep the helmet clean and tidy when using it. When cleaning is required, the cap shell and cap lining can be washed with cold or warm water (below 50°C), dried and air-dried in a cool place. Do not bake them near a heat source to prevent the cap shell from deforming.

2. Safety helmets should be stored away from acids, alkalis, high temperatures (above 50°C), direct sunlight, and moisture, and avoid being squeezed by heavy objects or punctured by sharp objects. If it is lost or reaches the scrap condition, it must be reissued or replaced immediately. The damaged helmet should be scrapped immediately.

3. No one is allowed to enter the construction site without a safety helmet.

02 seat belt

1. All parts of the seat belt must not be disassembled at will. When fabric parts are stained, they should be cleaned with water and neutral soap. Acidic or alkaline solvents should not be used.

2. When storing, it should not be exposed to high temperatures, open flames, strong acids, strong alkali or sharp objects, and should not be stored in humid places.

3. During storage, the equipment should be visually inspected regularly. Any abnormalities must be replaced immediately. The frequency of inspections should be determined based on the frequency of use.

4. When the seat belt is not in use, it should be kept by a designated person.

03Air respirator

1. It should be stored in a closed and dry storage cabinet with a temperature of 0 to 30°C.

2. Pay attention to prevent moisture and direct sunlight. When there is heating equipment, the distance from the heating equipment should be greater than 1.5 m.

3. It should be placed in a clean and ventilated environment.

4. The storage environment should not cause physical or chemical damage to the air respirator, and the back panel and mask should not be deformed.

04 Eye (face) protective equipment

1. It should be kept clean and prohibited from contact with acids, alkalis and other harmful substances;

2. Protect from rain and heavy pressure, and handle with care to prevent breakage;

3. Use special glasses wipe paper to wipe;

4. If there are oil stains, you can use neutral detergent to clean them, rinse them with clean water, and then wipe them dry with a soft wipe (or paper towel).

05 Hearing protective equipment

1. For foam earplugs, if they are found to be dirty, damaged or deformed, they should be replaced immediately. For preformed earplugs, it is recommended to wash them with mild soapy water and dry them thoroughly after each use;

2. If the preformed earplugs are stained, cracked or hardened, they should be replaced immediately;

3. Earmuffs need to be cleaned regularly with mild soapy water, cup pads and headband;

4. Under normal use, replace the cup pads and foam plugs every six months to one year. If used frequently or in humid/harsh environments, the replacement frequency should be increased.

06 Hand protective equipment

1. Before and after use, the appearance of protective gloves should be checked for defects. For insulating gloves used for live work, the inflatable method can be used to check, and for chemical protective gloves, the water immersion method can be used to check;

2. After use, gloves should be cleaned. For different types of protective gloves, you should confirm whether they can be washed according to the instructions and wash them as required; gloves should be stored in a well-ventilated, dry, mildew-proof, and moth-proof place to avoid moisture and sunlight, and should not be mixed with acids, alkalis, Oil and corrosive objects are stored together; anti-static gloves and insulating gloves for live work can be sprinkled with talc powder on the gloves to prevent adhesion; insulated gloves for live work should be stored in a special box and stored at least 1 m away from the heat source. The ambient temperature should be between 10 and 21°C.

07 Foot protection equipment

1. It is not allowed to modify the structure of the shoes without authorization, such as drilling holes, digging holes, etc.;

2. Clean and perform regular maintenance after use. Do not rinse directly with water or expose to sunlight to ensure normal function of the shoes;

3. When used in harsh environments, its validity period will be shortened;

4. After the operation is completed, wet foot protective shoes (boots) and accessories should be placed in a dry and ventilated place, but should not be close to heat sources to prevent the shoes (boots) from being too dry and causing cracks.

5. When storing, it should be stored in a cool, dry and ventilated place.

08 Other labor protection products

Other protective equipment should be maintained and maintained regularly in strict accordance with relevant regulations, and safety inspections should be carried out regularly. If any hidden dangers are found, they should be dealt with or replaced in a timely manner.
